Today's painting is of Lay's Market, downtown at 622 East Jackson Avenue. Lay's Market has been in business and selling fresh cuts meats since 1907.  They provide their own special brands of meats such as Cloverleaf Brand Hams, Lay's Market Brand Bacon, Bologna, Hot Dogs and Barbeque......so good!

Today's painting is of the the Henley Street Bridge at night in downtown Knoxville. 
The bridge was built in the 1930's and spans over the Tennessee River and is the site for one of the largest fireworks displays in the south: Boomsday! Thank you to my friend Kurt Weiss for inspiring me to do this postcard painting.

Today's painting is of  the Gatepost at the entrance of Island Home Park in south Knoxville. The gateposts, one on each side of the street, were constructed around 1899 after the Island Home Park Company acquired the property located outside the gardens of Perez Dickinson's house.  Island Home Park contains some of the best examples of Bungalow and Craftsman architecture in Knoxville.

Today's painting is of the Mast General Store in downtown Knoxville on Gay Street. The original store began in North Carolina in 1883 and has about eight locations across the NC, SC and Tennessee. This location moved to Knoxville in 2006 and has been a integral part of the revitalization of downtown and the candy section alone will make your mouth water!

Today's painting is of the Clinch Avenue Bridge that spans over the World's Fair Park site and the beautiful pond feature with its cascading waterfalls. The bridge has been used as the starting point for several races that are held annually downtown. The amphitheater and the famous Sun-sphere are just on the other side of the bridge, which I sure will show up as a daily painting soon.

Today's painting is of the fountains in World's Fair Park where kids young and old come to play and cool off in the waters of the fountains during the hot Tennessee summers. The 1982 World's Fair was hosted on this site and also home to the Historic L & N Railroad Station which is the building on the right side.

Today's painting is of Litton's Market & Restaurant in Fountain City, Tennessee. Litton's has been in operation since the 1940's and serves the BEST hamburgers in the world! Where else can you get an ice cold Coca-Cola in the 8oz bottles with the best hamburger you've ever tasted and finish the night off with a Mary Jane (strawberry shortcake)....oh its heaven!

Each Saturday and Wednesday during the summer the market is open and full of farm fresh produce, baked goods, plants, flowers and an assortment of handmade items by local artists. Today's painting is of the Historic Tennessee Theater in downtown Knoxville, TN. The Theater was renovated in 2001 and has become an iconic landmark in the region as well as a favorite subject of my own paintings. It only made sense to re-visit this subject in a small painting to kick off my new series, "Postcards from Knoxville"
