Today's painting is of the largest fireworks display in the southeast....Boomsday! Every Labor Day weekend, Knoxville stages a spectacular fireworks show off of the Henley Street bridge and crowds of people fill the waterfront, buildings and rooftops to watch the sky light up. Thanks to my friend Kurt Weiss for helping inspire me for this piece.

About "Postcards"

"Postcards from Knoxville" is a painting blog of small works that feature Knoxville and surrounding areas by artist Mike C. Berry. Original paintings (approx: 5 x 7 inches) will be posted fequently on this blog and made available through a link to eBay.

This idea to create the blog came from my friend, Mark Heinz, a local architect, who encouraged me to exhibit and sell my paintings of Knoxville on a blog. Upon researching this type of blog I found that I would be remiss if I did not thank artist Duane Keiser who started the concept of the daily painting blog in 2004 and to Stephen Magsig for inspiring me with his idea of the daily "postcard" painting.

I began to feature "Knoxville" in my work in early 2001 and the public's response to a 2005 exhibition showcasing my cityscapes encouraged me to continue featuring our great city as a subject of my art. The resurgence of life into downtown Knoxville has also created wonderful subjects to paint as well as an opportunity to showcase this city that I'm proud to call my hometown.
